Free Cats! -- Saturday May 29th, 2010
http://waterloo.craigslist.org/pet/1765461099.html
Waverly Humane Society has several adult and young cats available to barn homes.
They have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and are ready to go!
These are NOT tame cats!
They may end up loving you but right now these are NOT cuddly cats. They are scared and want to hide.
They are from a hoarding situation and must go to their new barn this weekend.
Farm owner must be willing to provide cat food and water plus winter shelter.
Contact us ASAP if you are able to take some barn cats!
We have some of everything, long or short hair, white and black, tabby and buff, all kinds!

Any individual can go to Jenny’s Heroes and apply to give a gift to a community organization! They do not give money, but they give product up to a $25,000 value! Be on the LOOK OUT! -- Thursday March 11th, 2010
URGENT: PLEASE FORWARD:
I am writing to let you know that there is a LARGE group of bunchers working from the
Hibbing-Virginia area down through Duluth-Mid Minnesota-mid Wisconsin.I have not only
spoken with many people who have had their pets stolen from their fenced yards, taken off
tie-outs, and one brave enough to run up to a man's porch in broad daylight and try to
steal his Dachund. Luckily, he lived by a 4 way stop, and ran into the street in front of
the cars. When he yelled "What are you doing with my dog" the woman threw her out of the
window to the pavement and said "We thought she was lost" then took off before he could
get a licence number. Note: A woman was driving and she had a 9 or 10 year old girl run
for her.Unfortunately, I was an intended target as well. I'd noticed a blue truck with a
topper and a sort of loud muffler going slowly past my fenced yard off and on for the last
three weeks. Last week one of the guys (there were 2 men) got out by my side fence and
bent down to call the dogs-luckily I was standing at the door and was out there like a
shot.Needless to say, they took off. Four nights ago, just at dusk, I heard that truck
again. This time they pulled up the the front fence (so all I could see was the side of
the truck-no plates). Two of my dogs were out. The guy in the passenger side jumped out
and was at my fence in a second, bent down and calling "come here puppy want this come
here.." Again, luckily I've been keeping an Eagle Eye on my dogs. I ran out and called
Baily (he was closest) and at the same time screamed "What the hell are you doing"...well
he was in the truck and gone in 2 seconds. The next day, Dan was out in back by the
garage, and Mason trotted up to him! We couldn't figure out how in the world he'd gotten
out, until Dan checked the fence. The spot where this dog thief was squatting the night
before had used wire cutters to snip several pieces of our fence wire...just enough to
reach in and grab the dogs. Please be advised that there has also been a report of a dark
haired woman in a coupe-like red car who has been spotted doing the same thing. God knows
how many there are and how many vehicles are being used. PLEASE use caution when letting
your dogs out. Mine will never go out alone again!

Lucy Goes Home! -- Tuesday March 9th, 2010
We are so thrilled that Lucy found her new home! Her new parents drove 14 hours ONE WAY from Fort Worth Texas to come pick up their new family member. She made a great impression in the house here by peeing on the floor and then once they got her in the car, she proceeded to jump into the front seat and spill their pop all over... yet they STILL wanted her! :) She will be a challenge but they were looking forward to having her home. Thank You Moonen Family!!
Leo was a hit on KWWL -- Tuesday March 9th, 2010
Leo was an angel, laying at Jennifer Hildreth's feet during our pet segment! He made a fantastic impression on a semi-retired couple who ended up adopting him within 5 hours of his media debut! Great Job Leo and Thank You Terry!
Meeting for Building -- Monday February 15th, 2010
Please support the Waverly Humane Society this Thursday at the Parks and Rec Committee meeting to be held at Waverly City Hall at 7pm in the Council Chambers.
The humane shelter is proposed to be in an existing park building, south of the fire station and in a U-1 zoned area, which is “Environmentally Sensitive Area”. This area is prone to flooding and as such, the zoning designation is restrictive to structures and uses. In accordance with City Code, one may utilize an existing structure in the U-1 for a public agency (Definition from internet: maintained at the expense of, serving, or for the use of a community a public library) use. Whether the proposed humane society use will be conducted by a “public agency” or not may be debatable as it is not funded by taxpayer dollars. But, I believe this use is a public agency use as it relies on charitable donations, grants and other sources of funding in addition to nominal operating fees for expenses to serve the entire public in the name of domestic animal care.
The process would have to follow Section 100.18.03 of City Code, which specifies this go before the planning and zoning commission (P&Z) for review and approval by City Council. Because this use would generate sound (barking/other animal sounds), more traffic (would require a paved parking area no less than 1,000 square feet in size), and potential lighting concerns (if added), a public hearing may be requested to be similar to the process for other “special provisional uses” found in “Residential” zoned neighborhoods by the Planning and Zoning Commission. I anticipate the neighbors across the street would be interested in this proposal. In sum, the meetings would be:
1. P&Z meeting to set public hearing, look at proposed site plan addressing the above requirements.
2. Public hearing at next regular P&Z meeting (next month).
3. City Council meeting for final decision.
